Horseback Riding in Colorado’s Canyons

One of the best ways to see Colorado’s canyon country is on the back of a horse. Rimrock Adventures provides our guests with two spectacular areas in which to ride. Our one, two and three-hour rides take you into the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area. Our wild horse ride takes you into the federally protected Little Bookcliffs Wild Horse Preserve.

Important Information for Horseback Rides:

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your reservation
  • Wear long pants and closed toe shoes
  • Hats should be well fitting or have chin strap
  • Sunscreen and bug spray are encouraged
  • Camera – no attached extendable poles please

1 Hour Ride: Red Rock Ride

We take you through the front country of the McInnis National Conservation Area located at the base of the Colorado National Monument. It is a small sample of the spectacular beauty of Western Colorado. There are opportunities to see desert wildlife and fauna such as the collard lizard, jack rabbits and beautiful flowering cacti. Great ride for beginners or inexperienced riders. Children are also welcome ages 7 and up. There is a weight limit of 250 lbs. Please let us know if someone in your party is over 6’4”.

2 Hour Ride: Colorado Canyons Ride

$100/ADULT AND $75/CHILD

This ride extends the one hour ride to include the rim of Devil’s Canyon. The beauty of the red rock coves and canyons abound with desert wildlife including eagles, deer, jack rabbits and sometimes the elusive coyote. There are some tricky inclines and declines along this trail making it slightly more technical than the one hour, but still appropriate for novice riders. There is a weight limit of 250 lbs. Please let us know if someone in your party is over 6’4”.

2 Hour Ride: Sunset Ride

$110/ ADULT AND $85/ CHILD

This Sunset Ride shows the Grand Valley in the best light (no pun intended). As you trek passed the base of the Colorado National Monument, the land and wildlife come to life. The desert birds come out to catch their last meals for the day while the setting sun paints the Bookcliffs pink. This is an unforgettable experience to have with someone you love.

Pony Ride

If your child is under 7 years old and therefore too young to go on one of our rides, then this is a great chance for them to get up on a horse. A parent or adult can lead the child on horseback around the Rimrock property for 15 minutes giving them a chance to experience an easy first horseback ride.
